A Creative Challenge in the Studio
Year 9 students recently stepped out of the classroom and into the pottery studio for a memorable trip that brought together both chemistry and art. The experience offered a unique opportunity to explore learning in a creative, practical setting.
Throwing a pot on the wheel proved to be a real challenge, with plenty of clay flying and lots of laughter along the way. Despite the mess, students fully embraced the process, gaining first-hand experience of shaping and forming clay.
Bringing Chemistry to Life
The trip also reinforced key scientific concepts. As students worked through the stages of shaping, drying, glazing and firing, they applied their understanding of chemical changes and material science in a real-world context. This hands-on approach helped bring elements of the science curriculum to life.
Exploring Artistic Expression
From an artistic perspective, the session supported students in designing and creating their own three-dimensional pieces. It encouraged creativity, patience and attention to detail, all essential skills within the art curriculum.
