Florist Workshop at OIC Brighton: Creativity, Community and Wellbeing in Ovingdean

The Ovingdean Common Room was transformed this week into a charming florist’s workshop, as Ovingdeaners gathered to create their own beautiful floral arrangements.
Surrounded by fresh blooms and greenery, students embraced the opportunity to design unique bouquets, each one reflecting their creativity, personal style and attention to detail.
The workshop brought a warm and lively atmosphere to the boarding community, with students chatting, sharing ideas and working together as they brought their arrangements to life.

Creative Activities That Support Student Wellbeing
At OIC Brighton, student wellbeing is supported not only through structured guidance, but also through opportunities for creativity, connection and calm.
The florist workshop offered students a welcome moment to pause, focus and enjoy a hands-on activity away from academic pressures. With exam season approaching, experiences like this can help students recharge, express themselves and maintain balance during a demanding time of year.
Creative activities encourage mindfulness, patience and confidence. They also give students the chance to develop skills beyond the classroom while enjoying time with their peers.

Building Connection in the Ovingdean Boarding Community
The workshop was also a thoroughly social and uplifting occasion.
Ovingdeaners supported one another throughout the activity, exchanging ideas and celebrating each other’s designs. The collaborative nature of the session helped strengthen friendships and added to the strong sense of belonging within the boarding community.
For boarding students, shared experiences like this are an important part of life at OIC Brighton. They help create a warm, supportive environment where students can feel at home, build friendships and enjoy a balanced college experience.
Confidence, Creativity and Personal Expression
Each finished bouquet showcased impressive artistic flair.
Students had the freedom to choose their flowers, arrange colours and shape their bouquets in a way that felt personal to them. This encouraged independence, decision-making and creative expression, all valuable parts of wider student development.
The finished arrangements now brighten students’ rooms, serving as cheerful reminders of a collaborative and enjoyable experience.
Supporting Life Beyond Academic Excellence
The florist workshop reflects OIC Brighton’s commitment to developing more than academic excellence.
While academic ambition is central to college life, students also benefit from opportunities that support wellbeing, creativity and community. Activities like this help students feel connected, balanced and ready to approach their studies with renewed focus.
We are delighted to see our Ovingdeaners making the most of these moments together and bringing such creativity and positivity to the boarding community.
