Suturing Workshop

Suturing Workshop | OIC Brighton - Suturing Workshop

During a Career Pathways session led by Brighton and Sussex Medical School students, our students had the chance to learn the delicate technique of suturing - the process of stitching tissue so a wound can heal properly. Building on previous practice in Biology Club, the session helped them understand how wounds are closed in healthcare while developing patience, precision and confidence.

Students discovered that suturing can be tricky, especially when handling the instruments, keeping stitches neat and evenly spaced, and coordinating hand movements. Working alongside medical students gave them valuable guidance and the chance to ask questions about how these skills are used in real medical settings.

Suturing is central to careers such as medicine, surgery, nursing, dentistry, veterinary science and biomedical research. This session can also form part of a wider series, with future opportunities to explore new stitching techniques, practise on more realistic models and link the skill to anatomy and first aid.
