In November, we were excited to celebrate an incredible achievement from our community! Anjola, one of our outstanding Year 10 students, secured a place on the NAE STEAM trip at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Known globally for its innovation and academic excellence, MIT represents the pinnacle of opportunity for aspiring scientists, engineers, and leaders. During the trip students took part in campus tours, STEAM workshops, lectures from leading researchers, and a collaborative project day with peers from other NAE schools.
Reflecting on her experience, Anjola shared:
"The MIT trip was an enriching experience where I got to meet so many students from over 50 different countries and make lifelong friends from all over the world. At MIT we did a series of workshops—a highlight for me being the Cancer Research workshop, but others included a 2D to 3D workshop, a Voxel lab, and a music engineering workshop. We also participated in a duck boat tour around Boston and Cambridge, where I even had the opportunity to drive! Project Day was another highlight: we were asked to design an experiment for a zero-gravity flight, using materials like laser cutting, 3D printing, and electric circuits. My group’s project investigated how the acceleration of circular motion is affected by zero gravity by designing a motorized Ferris Wheel to test this. Overall, this trip helped me learn how to think creatively under pressure and share ideas confidently—skills I will bring back and use in different aspects of college life."
