A Week of Outstanding Debating at OICB

A Week of Outstanding Debating at OICB | OIC Brighton - A Week of Outstanding Debating at OICB

It has been an exceptional week for debating at OIC Brighton, with students competing on both the global stage and in high-level national competitions.

NAU Global Campus Debate

Our Intermediate and Advanced teams kicked things off by taking part in the first round of the NAU Global Campus Debate, competing against students from San Roberto International School and Colegio Menor Samborondón. This opportunity allowed our debaters not only to sharpen their argumentation and public-speaking skills, but also to connect with peers from around the world an enriching and inspiring experience for everyone involved

The atmosphere throughout the week was electric, and it was a joy to see our students thrive on both international and formal competitive platforms. Their preparation, teamwork, and confidence truly shone.

Huge congratulations to all our debaters and best of luck in the next round!

English Speaking Union’s Mace Debating competition

On Wednesday 12th November, there was much excitement and even more nerves with the very first team of OICB representing the college at the first round of the English Speaking Union’s Mace Debating competition.

Five other teams were also present to compete for a place in the regional finals – Lancing College, Uckfield College, Burgess Hill Girls’ School, Eastbourne College and Roedean School.

The intrepid team from OICB rose to the occasion as proposition, banning short haul domestic flights where alternatives exist. They had prepared for the debate with close attention to detail, practice runs, and plenty of modifications to make sure their points were compelling and incisive. With a great mix of word play, pithy statements, rhetorical questions and an array of facts, the team were successful in convincing the judges and the audience that their side was the strongest one. Jason’s confidence, Su’s fantastic rebuttal, and Aaliyah’s phenomenal summary skills were complimented by all present.

The OICB team look forward to debating friendlies with the competitors as they prepare for their next round. A well-deserved win overall!
