A Creative Collaboration for The Tempest

In preparation for the upcoming Year 9 production of The Tempest, TinTin has been hard at work crafting a striking wearable sculpture of Caliban—Shakespeare’s mysterious and monstrous island inhabitant. 

The piece is designed as a large-scale puppet that will be worn and animated during the performance, adding a dramatic and visually captivating element to the show. TinTin has embraced the challenge with creativity and enthusiasm, working with a wide range of materials including cardboard, wire, bamboo, plaster and foam to bring the creature to life. 

This project has been a brilliant example of cross-disciplinary collaboration, bringing together the creative forces of visual art and performance in a truly unique way. 

We’re incredibly proud of the creativity, teamwork and dedication shown throughout this project. It’s been a joy to watch students come together, each contributing their own talents to bring something entirely original to life. 

We can’t wait to see Caliban take centre stage next week as the play unfolds at the Village Hall.

Jacky, Year 10 is working on a street art project. 

“The subject of street-art intrigues me because I want to look in-depth at ways of showing different urban influences. The motif of a rebellious spirit gives me the opportunity to research and develop the concepts of teen subcultures for my upcoming art piece. I wish to develop this theme in my own personal direction by recording graffiti with photography and drawing in Brighton. I'm keen to evolve this concept in my unique way through documentation of urban art using spray paint. My enthusiasm and fascination with this subject stems from Banksy.”
