It was an inspirational evening and we were proud to take part. Over 300 students from schools across the South of England gathered to celebrate their love of reading. Before the winner was announced, the five shortlisted authors spoke eloquently about the creative process of writing their novels and how their ambitions had become reality. Illustrator Chris Riddell drew for us as the authors spoke.
The winning author was announced, voted for by the audience. We were excited to learn that this was Ravena Guron, author of This Book Kills. Year 9 enjoyed reading this novel in class in their very first term at OIC Brighton. There was an opportunity to have our books signed and students were awarded vouchers to choose books. We made sure to have our library copy of This Book Kills signed and dedicated to OIC Brighton!

Our Head of 6th Form, Dr Kirsten Dickers, shares insights into how we are preparing our students for their UCAS applications to ensure they are in the best position to gain access to the world’s top universities.
